Case ends for Jack

A petit jury trial, scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 20, has been canceled because the defendant entered a plea of guilty Friday.

John Yves Jack Jr. entered guilty pleas on two counts of distribution of cocaine. District Attorney Trent Brignac said his office was preparing to try Jack as a multiple offender for two separate incidents. The cases were made by undercover operations by the Louisiana State Police (LSP). As the trial neared, he said Jack had two options, to plead guilty or stand trial. He said no plea bargain was offered. Jack entered his plea of guilty Friday. Sentencing has been set for April 14. Judge J. Larry Vidrine ordered a pre-sentence investigation.

Jack was represented by Peter Q. John, an attorney from Baton Rouge. Shelley Deville was representing the prosecution for the state.

Jack faces a sentence of not less than two years and not more than 30 years. The first two years of the sentence has no benefit of parole.

Brignac thanked the investigators from LSP who conducted this investigation. He said they did an excellent job.
