Catholic Daughters celebrate memorial mass
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, celebrated its annual memorial mass for deceased members November 5, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church with Father Mario Romero officiating.
Beverly McBride provided the music, and the voice of Donald Chapman eloquently rendered the songs appropriate for the occasion. The procession of the Catholic Daughter officers was preceded by the color guard bearing the United States Flag and the court banner with the motto “Unity and Charity.” The mistress of ceremonies was Cheryl Debaillon, and Bonnie Fontenot was the reader.
The deceased members honored during the mass were: Ury Duos, Versie Landreneau and Theotis Patin. Their family members were invited to attend the mass. They were presented with a pink rose bouquet and a lighted candle as Regent Mary Jenkins asked them to come forward.
A short meeting was held by Jenkins after the mass. She wished those with November birthdays a Happy Birthday and thanked Father Romero, McBride and Chapman for the beautiful mass. She had received a thank you note from Tina Guillory for the Catholic Daughters’ participation in the Cotton Festival Harvest Mass.
The court’s Salad and Bingo fund raiser was a huge success. She thanked the daughters for all their help with the event.
Plans were made for the Christmas social to be held December 3, at the Family Life Center. Members were asked to bring canned goods for the food baskets for the needy, a toy for a child as a gift and a covered dish for the meal.
