Catholic Daughters enjoy Christmas social

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, met at the Our Lady Queen of All Saints Family Life Center for its monthly meeting and Christmas social December 3. The special guest for the meeting was District Deputy Regent Betty Soileau from Opelousas. She was accompanied by a friend.

Regent Mary Jenkins presided over the meeting. Other officers in attendance were Romona Ortego, vice regent; Annette Johnson, financial secretary; Barbara Vidrine, recording secretary; and Barbara Delafosse, treasurer.

Jacqueline LeBas read an article about the devastation of the Catholic church in Hackberry and its mission in Johnson Bayou. The recent hurricanes caused the loss of much church property. The local court voted to give a donation to that church to acquire new needed items.

Each court member brought canned goods to go in the court's Christmas baskets for the needy and a wrapped Christmas present for a deserving child.

Those in attendance enjoyed a delicious Christmas meal and a few lucky members won door prizes.

The next meeting will be held January 7, 2009. At that time, the court will vote on a Catholic Daughter of the year, who will be announced at the February meeting.
