Catholic Daughters hold first meeting of new year
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its January meeting Wednesday, January 7, at the Sacred Heart meeting room with Regent Mary Jenkins presiding.
After the opening prayers, she thanked Cheryl Debaillon for coordinating the Memorial Mass in November and wished a Happy Birthday to members with birthdays in January.
Bess Fontenot explained the Prayer Warrior Movement headed by Yvonne Dardeau. Each court member was asked to choose a prayer time for improvement of our country's moral, spiritual and economic fiber. Court members signed up for specific prayer times.
The court receieved thank you notes for the spiritual bouquets sent to sick or bereaved people.
Leah Hollier reported on the success of the food baskets for the needy and the toy drive. Money and help for the preparation of the baskets came in at the last minute. Court member Carrie Deville assisted Hollier a great deal.
Plans were discussed for the court's attendance of the CDA State Convention to be held in Alexandria May 1, through May 3. Barbara Delafosse plans to run for the office of state treasurer.
The court was reminded of the Pro-life Walk set for January 25, beginning at Our Lady Queen of All Saints and ending at Sacred Heart.
On March 15, the Ville Platte Ministerial Alliance will hold an informative fair. The court plans to set up a booth at the event as this will be a good way to show the community the work of the CDA court.
At the February 4, mass, four new members will be installed. Every court member is reminded to bring a covered dish for the Installation Banquet following the mass. Also, club dues should be paid prior to March 1.
