Catholic Daughters hold meeting
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its monthly meeting April 1, in the Sacred Heart meeting room with Regent Mary Jenkins presiding. After the opening prayers, she announced the April birthdays. The Knights of Columbus sold barbecue Sunday, April 5, and the court members assisted by serving the plates.
Bernita Chapman had raffle tickets for the Belaire Cove Crawfish cookoff, which will be held the Sunday after Easter.
Jenkins thanked those who helped with the French Retreat, including Verna Guillory and Celia Ardoin for chairing the event, Benita Chapman for reading and Renella Bernard and Jackie and Andrea LeBas for the refreshments.
Thank you notes were read by Bernita Chapman from the families of Shirley Miller and Shirley Cooper.
The audit will be held April 14. Those assisting with the audit will be Sybil Veillon, Becky LeBas, Bernita Chapman, Renella Bernard and Joy Deshotel.
The court voted to give four masses for a deceased Catholic Daughter and one mass for an immediate family member, such as a husband or child.
The court offices will attend the state convention, which will start May 1. Barbara Delafosse will run for the office of state treasurer.
On June 6, the court will assist Sarah Webb with the reception for the ordination of Brad Guillory as a priest.
The winners of the children’s essay, poetry and poster contest will be announced at the May meeting by Barbara Delafosse.
The court will hold its annual salad and bingo fund raiser June 10, at the Northside Civic Center. Tickets will be available in May. A plan of work for the event will be discussed at the May meeting.
The meeting was closed with a prayer for the sick.
