Catholic Daughters plan fund raiser
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, met March 4, at the Sacred Heart meeting room with Regent Mary Jenkins presiding. After the opeing prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, Jenkins wished a Happy Birthday to the 10 members celebrating a birthday in March.
She announced the organization of another St. Ann’s Court in Mamou with 36 members. She also read a thank you note from the Hackberry Church for the donation sent by the local court to repair hurricane damage.
The court voted to send money to buy a present for the out-going state regent.
Barbara Delafosse gave a report on the poetry, essay and poster contest for Sacred Heart Elementary students and asked members to serve as judges.
Jenkins reviewed the committee chairmen and their jobs as follows: Leah Hollier and Annette Fontenot, Christmas baskets; and Janelle Foret, morality in the media. The late Margaret Reed Fontenot was the chairman of the food baskets given to families at the death of a member. A new list will be made.
The state CDA convention will be held in Alexandria May 1-3, and a group from the court will attend. The annual French Retreat was held March 10, with Father Joshua Guillory officiating.
All court members were urged to attend Ministry Day March 15, where the court set up a booth to explain its activities.
The court was invited to attend two Lenten services, Lectio Divina, Ignatian Contemplation presented by Robin Hebert in Opelousas March 14, and the Lenten Day of Recollection for all Catholic Daughters in the Diocese of Lafayette organized by CDA spiritual advisor Father Cedric M.
