Celestine-Dennis-Logan family reunion held
The Martin Luther King Center in Rayne was the setting on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3, 2010, for the Celestine-Dennis-Logan family reunion.
The mid-day event was attended by descendants of Joseph and Clairess Celestine Dennis of Lafayette.
Clairess was a slave in the late 1800’s on the Lone Plantation near Lafayette, and Joseph was a crop owner on the Lone Plantation in Ridge.
Members of the eldest generation are Leroy Dennis, Sr., Pearl Narcisse, Dorris Christian, Irvin Dennis, Eileen Dennis, Shirley Dennis Mouton, Marylee Hamilton and Lonnie Celestine.
Honored as the eldest family member in attendance was 87-year-old LeRoy Dennis, Sr. of Port Arthur, Texas.
Four-month-old Kylen David Domingue of Lafayette was recognized as the youngest family member in attendance for the reunion. He is the son of Daniel Domingue and LaQuinta Wycoff of Lafayette.
Traveling the farthest to attend the reunion was Mrs. Shannon Fountain of Omaha, Neb.
Reunion committee members were Fontella Cole, Andrea Broussard, Ludy Bellard, Gerard Broussard and Ida Wycoff.
Friday’s menu consisted of crawfish etouffee, fetuchini, boiled crawfish, potato salad, corn, punch and cake.
The menu for Saturday included barbecue, rice dressing, green beans, salad, cake, Easter candy and punch.
For entertainment, those in attendance enjoyed bingo, music, talent and style show.
An Easter theme was noted throughout the decorations provided for the reunion, with children enjoying a fun jump.
Over 150 family members and descendants, along with their guests were in attendance for the bi-annual reunion.
Family members attended from Rayne, Lafayette, Scott, Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville, Carencro, Port Arthur, Texas; Houston, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; Omaha, Neb.; and Kansas City, Kan.
The next reunion has been planned in two years with site and date to be released at a later date.
