Cell phone brought to jail, one charged

MAMOU - The Mamou Police Department arrested one individual for introducing contraband into a penal system recently.

Detective Caleb Semien said Scharika F. Patin, 23, 809 Fifth St., Mamou, visited her boyfriend, who was a trustee housed in the Mamou Jail, and brought him marijuana and a cell phone December 30.

Semien said her boyfriend, Cortez Thomas, also allowed other inmates to use the cell phone for a $10 charge. Patin was arrested and charged and Thomas was transported to the Basile Correctional Facility.
