CenturyTel sends relief to assist Arkansas residents

In the wake of telephone outages caused by an unprecedented ice storm in northern Arkansas, CenturyTel is sending out-of-state technicians to assist with the restoration of communications services there.

Robin Young, cable technician from Ville Platte, left last week to join a team of 24 CenturyTel employees from Louisiana, Alabama and Texas, who will be assisting their counterparts in the restoration effort.

“CenturyTel has emergency disaster recovery plans in place in case of any natural disaster,” said Andrew Dugas, area operations manager for south Louisiana. “Disaster recovery crews work first to reestablish emergency services and then work with local crews to establish local telephone and high-speed Internet services to business and residential customers.”

Young and team will be assessing damages, clearing debris, repairing phone lines and replacing utility poles in hard hit areas of Arkansas such as Hardy, Pocohontas and Mountain Home. As of Friday, almost 100 facilities were working via generator with several more impaired or out of service. The team is expected to work for a week in Arkansas.
