CFD, Assist Agency deliver Christmas joy

Members of the Crowley Fire Department and the Crowley Assist Agency played the role of Santa Claus Monday morning as they delivered packages of toys to families in need of assistance around Acadia Parish. The deliveries were part of the Toys for Tots program. With America’s economy as it is, this year seems to be much busier than in years past.
“We’ve received twice as many applications as we did last year,” said the Assist Agency’s Mae Rose Bourgeois, who is in her fifth year with the program. “During the Christmas season we like to partake in the season of giving even if times are tough.”
As the toy packages were delivered to the Crowley Fire Department, they were separated into areas that would be delivered to different parts of the parish including Crowley, Mermentau, Morse, and Church Point.
“It make us really feel gratified to give these kids a reason to smile on Christmas,” said Crowley Fire Chief Jody Viator. “We’ve been taking part in this for the last few years and we’re very proud to be a part of it.”
The firemen then broke off into separate groups with each being designated a different part of the parish to deliver toys.
“This is just such a wonderful thing,” said Linda Benoit with Assist Agency. “That’s what this time of year is all about.”
