CFD hold annual fundraiser

Members of the Crowley Fire Department were up bright and early cooking in excess of 900 hamburgers in preparation for their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association hamburger sale. The event raised over $3600 for MDA during last year’s fundraiser. Members of the fire department were hoping to exceed 2009’s total.
“We’re expecting a large line to form around 10:30 this morning,” said Louis Romero who has spearheaded the event for the past several years. “We work hard all year long for the city of Crowley but today is all working to raise money for the kids.”
Almost on Romero’s cue, cars began to line up nearly five to six deep as the Crowley Fire Department’s Hutchinson Ave. location turned into a large drive thru. People from neighboring businesses walked by, no doubt drawn in by the delicious smell of barbecue that was detectable clear across the Court Circle.
“We had several people here cooking at 7 a.m. this morning,” said Crowley Fireman Chad Monceaux. “We’ll be up again early tomorrow doing the same thing. “
The burger sale continued both Friday and Saturday until mid-afternoon or “as long as the burgers held out.” Some members of the Lafayette Fire Department, including Terry Castille, drove in to offer their support.
