CFD/MDA burger sale this weekend

CROWLEY - This weekend, August 13-14, the Crowley Fire Department will be holding their annual MDA hamburger sale at their main firehouse on the west side of the court circle. Those who wish to purchase hamburgers for two dollars each as well as those who would simply like to make a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association can drive through the fire department to help support a good cause.
“With all the hard work we do all year this weekend is special because its for the kids,” said spokesman Louis Romero who has been in charge of the fundraiser for the last ten years. “This year’s goal is the same as it every year. To raise as much money as possible and surpass last year’s total.”
The Crowley Fire Department raised over $3600 dollars during last year’s event.
Romero said that they will be firing up the pit at 5 a.m. Friday and will be selling burgers until mid-afternoon. However, anyone wishing to purchase a burger can do so later as long “as the leftovers hold out.” The schedule will be the same on Saturday.
The Crowley Fire Department has been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for as long as anyone in the department can remember. John Christman, who has been with the department for over three decades, said that the fundraiser was being held before he joined.
“We have also been cooking at the MDA camp in Shreveport for the past seven years,” added Romero. “We usually sent two or three counselors up there every year to help with the camp . . . this past year it was Chad Monceaux and Jason Broussard.”
Anyone wishing for any further information on this weekend’s event or those wishing to make a donation can call Louis Romero at (337) 224-2324.
