Chaisson, Henry propel Ladies past Rayne

By Chris Quebedeaux

RAYNE – The Crowley Ladies followed a familiar script Tuesday.

Only this time, they won.

The Ladies, who have struggled in the first half of games this season, rallied for 26 points in the second half to upend Rayne, 42-32, and start off District 5-AAA play on a positive note.

With the victory, Crowley improved to 7-7 overall and 1-0 in league play. Rayne fell to 5-12 and 0-1.

Crowley trailed 18-16 at the half and then rallied with a 15-4 run in the third to pull away.

“We have a tendency to play poorly in the first half and then win the second,” said Crowley coach Alton Allen. “Unfortunately in some of our early games, we dug ourselves’ too big of a hole to get out of. Tonight, we kept it close and were able to make some things happen in second half.”

CHS’ Lavetta Chaisson triggered the Ladies’ second-half surge by scoring nine of her game-high 18 points in the third frame.

“Lavetta started out slow and it took her a little while to get into the flow of things,” said Allen. “But she picked it up at the end of the second quarter to get us close.”

Crowley took a 31-22 advantage after the third quarter and outscored the Lady Wolves 11-10 in the fourth.

Sharae Henry, playing in just her second game in three weeks due to a foot injury, scored nine points in the first half and five in the second to finish with 14.

“Sharae moved a lot better tonight than she had been,” said Allen of his standout guard that is still bothered by the injury. “For the most part, she ran the court well and that was a plus. She scored 14 big points for us.”

Also contributing in the victory were freshman forward Kara Wilridge with eight points and Carlita George with two.

Trysten Teer led the Lady Wolves with 17 points and Simone Brown scored six.

The Ladies will play host to the Erath Lady Bobcats Friday at 6 p.m.
