Chamber announces November events

CROWLEY – The Crowley Chamber of Commerce, Crowley Main Street, and title sponsor AT&T are joining forces to host the first annual Fall Fest, a Louisiana Main to Main Program celebrating Historic Downtown Crowley during the month of November.

A number of events are scheduled throughout the month which will encourage locals and visitors to visit downtown Crowley, a Louisiana Main Street community.

As has been the tradition for many years, the second weekend in November will feature local merchants in the Ribbons and Rice shopping extravaganza. Participating retailers will offer special discounts and giveaways to mark the beginning of the holiday shopping season in Crowley. The fun will begin with the Crowley Art Association’s monthly Art Gala on the evening of Thursday, November 6, from 6-8 p.m. Guests will enjoy wine and cheese while browsing the work of more than 40 artists. On Friday and Saturday, November 7-8, the following merchants will be participating in the Ribbons & Rice shopping event: Adams Apple Gifts & Embroidery, Huval’s Boot & Shoe Repair, Louisiana Church Interiors, la Spiaggia Day Spa & Salon, Mommy & Me, Ray’s Gifts & Interiors, Rice Palace, Salvador’s Jewelers & Gifts, Southern Tire & Appliance, Stine, Teacher’s Pet, and What a Girl Wants.

The following weekend, downtown will truly come to life.

On Saturday, November 15, the Chamber’s 5th annual Gumbo Cook-off will debut in its new location on the grounds of the Enterprise Center. The morning will begin with a poker run where riders will visit locations throughout Acadiana and return to the cook-off to try their hand at $500 in cash prizes. Registration will begin at 8 am, with riders departing at 9 am.

When gumbo preparations begin at noon, Main Street Market and Kids Day Out will be well underway. There will be activities for kids of all ages including a petting zoo, fun jumps, face painting, pony rides, train rides and more. Adults can visit the merchants who will participate in an extended version of market day offering children’s clothing, jewelry, homemade goods and much more. Barbecue hamburgers and other concessions will be available throughout the day.

By 4 p.m., the gumbo will be ready for judging and available for sampling. More than 20 teams are expected to compete in this year’s cook-off. Registration for the cook-off will be accepted through Friday November 7. At 4:30 p.m., Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin’ Cajuns will take the stage, followed by Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie from 7-10 p.m.

Last but not least, Fall Fest will conclude with the return of Shades of Praise, an interracial gospel group from New Orleans.
