Chemical leak forces closure of I-10 eastbound, westbound open for now

JEFF DAVIS PARISH – Louisiana State Police are currently working a chemical spill near Jennings along Interstate 10.

Police say an 18-wheeler is leaking nitric acid is leaking. The chemical is dangerous to inhale and is corrosive.

Crews have closed I-10 Eastbound in the area. At this point, I-10 Westbound is open.

Detours for the closure include I-10 east to Highway 395, north on Hwy 395 to Hwy 102, east on Hwy 102, then south on Hwy 26, then back to I-10.

Trooper Stephen Hammons with Louisiana State Police says I-10 West is open for the time being, but the option of closing it has not been ruled out.
