Cheneyville woman killed in crash
ALEXANDRIA - A crash involving two vehicles around the Cheneyville area today has left one woman dead.
Troopers responded to the crash around 5:45 a.m., which occurred on I-49 north of state Highway 181, which is north of the Avoyelles/Rapides Parish line. The crash involved a 2005 Kia Sedona, driven by Leticia A. Fontenot, 37, of Cheneyville, and a 1994 Kaiser (privately-owned flat bed, older military style vehicle), driven by Richard R. Stroes, 46, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.. Both vehicles were southbound on I-49 when the Kia collided with the rear portion of the Kaiser.
Fontenot was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead.
Stroes was not injured in the crash.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop E Troopers have investigated 13 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 15 fatalities. Eight of the 10 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
