Christmas in Crowley slated for Wednesday night
CROWLEY – The city of Crowley will get residents and visitors into the holiday spirit with their annual “Christmas in Crowley: A Holiday Affair” (set for Dec. 5) and now the schedule has been finalized.
“It’s growing and that’s a good thing for Crowley,” said Charlotte Jeffers, city of Crowley tourism coordinator. “Especially in only four years it has grown quite a lot and I’m just thankful for those that have stepped up and for the mayor and city council’s continued support.
While lights twinkle and put on a show along Parkerson Avenue as well as City Hall and the parish courthouse, a full slate of activities will be ready to get Crowley in the holiday spirit.
The light show is ongoing now through Jan. 3, 2013, beginning at 5 p.m. through midnight each night. Those in attendance can listen to the songs of the light show on 93.3 FM.
The 2012 City Hall light show, compliments of the city of Crowley, will be the centrer for the light show which also features lights and snowflakes on North Parkerson Avenue’s street lamp lights. Sponsors for the street lamps light show this year include the Bank of Commerce, Evangeline Bank, First National Bank, Home Bank, Crowley Professional Women’s Club, E.L. Habetz Builders, Mader Engineering, Florence Mauboules Charitable Trust, Gremillion’s Drug Store, Teche Electric, Southwind Senior Community, Summerwood Nursing and Rehabilitation, The Suires, Jay, Laurie and Grant, Harrison and Reagan and Thibs Auto Titles and Tags.
One of “Christmas in Crowley: A Holiday Affair’s” biggest attractions is Caroling Down the Avenue, which features various local choirs helping spread holiday cheer, because as the saying goes, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all can hear.” All groups will perform for 30-minute intervals with the exclusion of one, a new performing group to the area, the Mire Elementary school band.
“They (Mire) actually called us to participate,” said Jeffers.
Caroling Down the Avenue’s schedule is as follows:
- First Baptist Church Music Department, Met Life Corner (110 East Fourth St. and North Parkerson Avenue), 6-6:30 p.m.
- Redemptorist Bell Choir/Redemptorist Choir, The Courtyard (North Parkerson Avenue), 6:15-6:45 p.m.
