Christmas spirit hits Crowley

CROWLEY - “I’d call this a success,” smiled Crowley Mayor Greg Jones as walked down Parkerson Ave. Wednesday night enjoying the second annual Christmas in Crowley.

His statement, while obvious, couldn’t have described the event better.

The hundreds of people that converged on downtown Crowley were easily more than attended last year’s event. With several groups of Christmas carolers, a dazzling music and light show created by Crowley’s Lyn Askin, and, of course, jolly St. Nick himself greeting children inside the Rice Theatre, the scene couldn’t have embodied the Christmas spirit any better.

At Crowley City Hall, the Crowley Garden Club auctioned off several wreaths which were designed by various member of the community. Among the more unique wreaths were one that was comprised of nothing but wine corks and another that was designed in LSU colors.

“This is just wonderful said Darlene Daigle as she strolled down Parkerson with her three small children. “I hope this becomes a Crowley tradition.”

Judging by the turnout and the overall mood of the crowd, the event won’t be ending anytime soon.
