CHS to celebrate Homecoming
CROWLEY – Crowley High School will celebrate Homecoming 2009 with the theme “CHS Goes to Emerald City.”
The Crowley High students will celebrate the week with “Color Day” on Monday, September 21. Tuesday is “Nerd Day,” Wednesday is “Character Day,” Thursday is “Twin Day,” and Friday is the traditional “Green and Gold Spirit Day.”
The Homecoming Parade will be held in downtown Crowley at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 24. The parade will feature members of the Homecoming Court, the Football Sweetheart, the CHS football team, a variety of club and class parade entries, and the CHS marching band. During the week, class spirit competitions will be held.
The Homecoming Pep Rally will be held Friday, September 25 in the Boys’ Gym at 1:45 p.m. An alumni reception honoring the classes of 1989 and 1999 is also set for Friday at 5 p.m. through 6 p.m. in the Family and Consumer Science Department. Crowley High School graduates of 1989 and 1999 are invited to attend. The football game will also be held Friday as the Crowley High Gents take on Peabody High School beginning at 7 p.m. at Gardiner Memorial Stadium. During halftime, the Football Sweetheart will be presented and the newly selected Homecoming Queen for 2009 will be announced.
The members of the 2009 Homecoming Court are as follows:
Jenae Nicole Bertrand is the daughter of Regina Bertrand and Thomas Williams. She has been an active member of the Ladies’ softball team for four years. She was a member of the Ladies’ volleyball team during her sophomore year. Jenae was also a member of the 2008-2009 cheerleading squad. During her freshman and sophomore years, Jenae served as a student council representative and participated in the Harvest Fest for community service. She was an FFA member for two years. Jenae attends Crossroads church and participates in the Airborne youth program. She has a 3.4 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she will study early childhood development.
Gabbriana Oriell Cain is the daughter of Veronica Foreman and Kirk Cain. She has bee a student council representative for four years and attended the Louisiana Association of Student Council summer workshop in 200, and the state convention in 2009. Gabbriana was a member of the CHS chorus and the Step team for two years. She was also a member of the volleyball team in 2007 and 2008. As a freshman, she was awarded a gold A in science. Gabbriana is a member of First God Church in Christ. She is an active participant in the youth department and the praise dance team. She has been a delegate to the Auxiliaries in Ministry International Convention of the of the Church of God in Christ for the past four years. Gabbriana has a 3.2 grade point average and plans to attend LSU, where she will major in early childhood education.
Kaylan Danae Hargrave is the daughter of Haas Cormier and Chris Hargrave. She has been a member of the cheerleading squad for four years, where she currently serves as captain. Kaylan was a member of the softball team for two years. She was also a member of the regional champion powerlifiting team for one year, where she placed first in the 97 pound weight class. Kaylan has been involved in student council for three years, served as class representative during her freshman year, and is currently a homeroom representative. Kaylan was on the Prom Committee during her junior year. She was also a member of the Art Club for two years. Kaylan has a 3.0 grade point average and received the Academic Excellence Certificate in Math as a freshman. She has also received the Academic Achievement Certificate in English and Science. During her sophomore year, she was awarded the Bronze B in English and Math. As a junior, she received the Bronze B in Social Studies. Kaylan enjoys playing sports and spending time with her family and friends. She is a member of Northside Assembly of God church. Her plans after graduation are to join the Marines and eventually attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she will major in education.
Symone Kyoshia Johnson is the daughter of Peter and Suzanne Johnson. She has been a member of the color guard for three years and is currently serving as captain. Symone has also been a member of the student council for one year. During her junior year, she served on the Prom Committee. Symone has a 3.2 grade point average and has been named the hardest working student numerous times. She has also received a silver B award in math and science. She is a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Symone plans to attend Northwestern State University and major in health care.
Kayla Louise Kebodeaux is the daughter of Larry W. and Connie Kebodeaux. She has served as a student council representative for four years and attended the Louisiana Association of Student Councils in January of 2007. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society and currently serves as vice-president. Kayla has been a member of the Chronicle staff for three years and has served as graphic designer for all three. She has represented CHS as Literary Rally in 2008 and 2009 and was a delegate to Louisiana Girls State in 2009. She has participated in the Acadia Parish Gifted visual arts program for three years and has been a member of the Art Club for one year where she served as president. Kayla has also been the recipient of several awards and is a member of the Drama Club. She maintains a 3.47 grade point average and has received the hardest working student award numerous times. She enjoys dancing and is a member of the International Rice Festival Dance Troupe. She also enjoys drawing, painting, sewing, photography, and spending time with family and friends. Kayla served as an ambassador for Crowley as the 2008 Miss Teen Crowley. She is a member of the Family and Fellowship Church of Christ in Jennings. Kayla plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in Fashion Design and Illustration.
Amber Paige Leger is the daughter of Justin and Rebecca Leger. She has been a member of the CHS football management staff for three years where she currently serves as the head manager. She was a member of the student council for one year and is currently involved in the National Honor Society. During her junior year, she served on the Prom Committee. Amber is also a peer tutor. She was awarded the Bronze A in English, science, and social studies and a Bronze B in math. She received the hardest working student award and the honor roll award several times. Amber attends Forest Park Church of Christ and attends summer church camp where she served as a junior counselor. Amber enjoys working with the football team, reading, being a peer tutor, and mud riding. She has a 3.8 grade point average. Amber plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she will major in sports therapy and minor in special education.
Paige Nichol Lormand is the daughter of Raymond and Tiffany Lormand. She is currently the student council senior vice-president and has served as class president for three years. Paige has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and is currently serving as president. She has been a member of the Chronicle staff for three years and is now editor-in-chief. She received an academic excellence award as a freshman, the Bronze A award as a sophomore, and the Gold A award as a junior in math, science, English and social studies. Paige enjoys reading, being outside, spending time with family and friends, and going to the CHS football games. She has a 4.0 grade point average and plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she will major forensics.
Daisy Lynn Marceaux is the daughter of Chris and Rebecca Marceaux. She was an active member of the student council for four years. She has been a member of the Chronicle staff for two years and is now senior layout specialist. Daisy has also been involved in the History Club for two years where she recently participated in the presidential inauguration trip to Washington D.C. She has been the baseball manager for two years and is currently the football statistician. Daisy has been a peer tutor for two years. She is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and has a 3.3 grade point average. She enjoys shopping, swimming, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends. Daisy plans to attend Louisiana Technical College where she will major in nursing.
Felicia Christine Pastor is the daughter of Christopher and Patricia Pastor. She has been a member of the Topper staff for three years, History Club for two years, Key Club for one year, and FCCLA for two years. Felicia has been a peer tutor for two years. As a member of the History Club, she attended the presidential inauguration trip to Washington, D.C. Felicia has a 3.24 grade point average. She has received the hardest working student award numerous times. Felicia enjoys swimming, shopping, and hanging out with friends. Felicia and her family are hosting a foreign exchange student from Russia this year. Felicia plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she will major in education.
Tia Paige Simon is the daughter of Rebecca Sue Stafford. She has been a member of the Topper staff for three years where she currently serves as editor-in-chief. She has also been a member of the National Honor Society for three years and a peer tutor for two years. She was also a member of the Prom Committee during her junior year. She has been an active member of the History Club, Key Club, and Student Council. She also participated and helped with “Project Pink” for two years. Tia attended Louisiana Girls’ State in 2009. She received the Bronze A and Bronze B awards in English, math, science, and social studies. She also received the hardest working student award numerous times. Tia has a 3.6 grade point average and enjoys supporting the Gents, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. She is a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She plans to attend LSU-E and major in radiology.
The Crowley High School football team has chosen Molly Paige Broussard as the 2009 Football Sweetheart. She is the daughter of Jill Breaux and John Broussard. Molly has been a football manager for the past three years. She has also been a member of the student council serving as a representative during her freshman and sophomore years. Molly was also a member of the yearbook staff, Prom Committee, and the Art Club. She has a 3.0 grade point average and received the Silver B in Social Studies in her freshman year, the Silver B in English in her sophomore year, and the Silver B award in social studies in her junior year. Molly is a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Estherwood. She enjoys going to the movies, camping, shopping, and spending time with her family. Molly plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe to major in dental hygiene.
The week concludes with the Homecoming Dance sponsored by the Crowley High Student Council. The dance will be Saturday, September 26 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Crowley High School Commons Area.
