Church Point’s Richard signs with Nicholls
CHURCH POINT – Family and friends recently gathered to watch Maci Richard of Church Point High officially sign a national letter of intent to play college softball at Nicholls State University.
Maci said she verbally committed to Nicholls last week after a visit with the coaching staff.
"I had planned on going to school in Baton Rouge, but after visiting Nicholls and watching the softball team play I knew I wanted to go to school there,” said Richard. “I love the atmosphere at Nicholls. The coaches made me feel like they really wanted me.”
Mike Hardy, Church Point High Softball coach, saw the potential in Maci.
"Maci is the kind of player that coaches want,” said Handy. “She has great talent and leadership ability. I am very proud of her and know that she will excel at the next level."
Church Point Athletic Director, John Arceneaux also knew that Maci had the ability.
"Maci is a premier athlete,” said Arceneaux. “She obviously has Division I college talent, she works hard, comes from a good family and is an awesome kid."
Maci is the second Church Point High player to sign this year from Church Point. Lauren Matte signed a scholarship to play at LSU-E this past November.
"When we hired Coach Hardy we knew he had a reputation for getting players to the next level,” said Arceneaux. “He has started a new 14-and-under softball program in Church Point and we look forward to providing other opportunities to our female athletes in the community."
