Church Point man killed

COCODRIE – The driver of a pickup truck was killed and two passengers were injured early Tuesday when the vehicle veered off the roadway in a curve and hit two mailboxes before spinning and flipping several times, State Police said Wednesday.

The single-vehicle accident on La. 56 at 6:20 a.m. near Riggio Street in Cocodrie killed William Thompson, 33, Church Point, the Troop C report said. He died at the scene.

Two passengers, Harris Leger, 40, and John Matte, 31, both of Church Point, suffered moderate injuries and were taken to an area hospital, State Police said. None of the occupants was wearing seat belts.

Investigators said alcohol is suspected to be a factor and blood analysis results are pending. The report added that two small bags of suspected marijuana were found in the truck.
