Church Point resident killed
A Church Point resident is dead and a Lafayette man is behind bars following a single vehicle accident on U.S. 90 west of Rayne this past Saturday morning.
According to investigators, Jesse Carville, 21, of Lafayette was traveling eastbound when, for unknown reasons the vehicle was driven off the pavement onto the unimproved right shoulder. Carville abruptly steered the vehicle to the left and then crossed both lanes of U.S. 90 and entered the left ditch where he struck an embankment. The vehicle rotated a number of times and came to a rest in the ditch facing west.
At some point during the rotation, both Carville and his passenger, Kathie Richard, 26, of Church Point were ejected from the vehicle. Neither Carville or Richard were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Carville was transported to American Legion Hospital with moderate injuries. The Acadia Parish Coroner pronounced Richard dead at the scene.
Carville was charged with vehicular homocide, second offense DWI, careless operation of a motor vehicle, and no seat belt.
He was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail in Crowley following his release from the hospital.
