Church Point slips past Cecilia

CECILIA - The Church Point High Bears scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to overcome a 14-7 deficit with a 21-20 victory over the Cecilia High Bulldogs here Friday night.

The Bears (2-1) fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter as the Bulldogs’ Raymond Calais scored on touchdown runs of 23 and 12 yards. Drake Frederick kicked both PATs.

The Bears scored to cut the lead to 14-7 on a second-quarter run of 60 yards by Tyler Wheeler. Rian Richard kicked the PAT.

The Bears tied the score in the fourth quarter on Jake Morvant’s 13-yard run, with the kick by Richard.

With 45 seconds left in the game, the Bears took a 21-14 lead on a 9-yard run by James Bellard. Richard was true with the PAT kick.

Cecilia came back to score a touchdown on a one-yard by Landon Roberts, but the run for two points failed.

Calais led Cecilia with 97 yards on 18 rushes. Roberts added 125 yards passing with four of 12 completions. 

Deion Monroe led Church Point in rushing with 196 yards on 18 carries. Wheeler added 79 yards on five rushes. Bellard added 60 yards on 11 carries.
