Class of 2012 poses for graduation pictures

The incoming freshman class at Rayne High School posed in cap and gown for their graduation photos during the school’s first-ever freshmen orientation Tuesday.

The photos will be assemble and placed on a wall in the school as a reminder of what the students’ goal should be for the next four years.

The graduation photos was just one of the novel plans to ease the way for the first day of classes.

Gathering in the north gym, the names of the students were called out and were led to their homeroom. Some of the parents joined their children, there were several parent workshops offered to pass the time until dismissal at 3:15 p.m. Parents were trained how to check their child’s grades, homework assignments and more. There were sessions on how to use the websites, basic computer operations, school policies regarding dress code, cell phone use and the procedure to sign out and pick up a student.

The students participated in a homeroom poster contest, learned about the various student clubs, reviewed the student handbook, toured the campus, were issued lockers if they had brought a lock, and attended a pep rally. The Drama Club also staged a “Freshman Skit”.

Students were also offered savings on the student ID cards, paying $6 instead of $10 after school starts.

During general assembly, the students were welcomed by Principal Bobby Hamlin and Student Council President Lauren Lopez.
