Classmates enjoy Armstrong High 1970 reunion
Chef Roy’s Restaurant in Rayne was the setting on Saturday, July 20, 2013, for a class reunion held for 1970 graduates of Armstrong High School.
Deborah Jackson welcomed her classmates and their guests to the 43-year class reunion when classmates and old friends gathered to catch-up with old friends and to recollect the fun times enjoyed at Armstrong High School.
Ms. Jackson was joined by Colinda Bias Francis on the reunion committee.
The opening prayer and blessing was provided by Rev. James Proctor, teacher and sponsor.
A program was provided for all to enjoy, including a powerpoint presentation by Paula Cutrer, special guest.
Other special guests and class sponsors in attendance were Rev. James Proctor, Dr. Ezora Proctor, Thomas Sonnier Sr., and Mrs. Iownia Francis. Remembered was the late Mrs. Anita Taylor-Bercier, class sponsor.
A memorial servce was held in honor of deceased classmates with candles lit in their honor as a special reading of a prayer was recited by Grady Johnson and Francis Broussard. Classmates remembered were Author Lane Augustus, Jerry Otis Skillman, Stanley Logan, Robert Portalis, Anthony Bazile, Annie Bell Batiste, Reginald Eugene Smith, Jimmy Lee Guidry and Denray Bercier.
Presentations were made by Frank Broussard and Grady Johnson, with door prizes awarded by Linda Young and Wendy Francis.
The closing prayer was given by Rev. Keith Matthews.
Class officers were president Nolton J. Senegal Sr., vice president Grady Johnson, secretary Deborah A. Jackson, and treasurer Leatrice Bazile.
The class song was “School Days,” and the class motto was remembered, “Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not.” by Robert F. Kennedy.
Also remembered was the class flower, carnation, and the class colors, pink and lilac.
