A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Crowley for Claude Richard, 82, who died Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:20 p.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.
Mr. Richard was a native of Indian Bayou and longtime resident of Crowley. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served his country for 7 ½ years during World War II, Korean Conflict, Chinese Nationalist, Chinese Communist and was a Atomic Veteran. He retired in 1990 from the US Postal Service in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Wednesday from 12 noon to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. A rosary will be recited Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home by his niece, Sister Justina Baker. The burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery #2 in Rayne.
Mr. Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Stutes Richard of Crowley; two daughters, Deborah R. Herring of Houston, TX, Carla R. Pommier and her husband Chester of Rayne; one sister, Isabel Richard of Rayne; one brother, Purvis Richard of Rayne; one granddaughter, Rachel Pope; five great-grandchildren, Blake Herring, Jay Plowden, Makenzie Freeman, Chase Freeman and Audrey Morgan; two step-grandsons, Brad and Colby Pommier; three step great-grandchildren, Joseph, Henri and Eli Pommier.
Mr. Richard was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jennifer Herring; one grandson, Jeffrey Herring; his parents, Willie and Anocia Fontenot Richard; three sisters, Gladys Guillory, Nola Richard and Fabula Richard; two brothers, Clovis Richard and Sidney Baker.
