Close but no cigar

St. Martinville – At approximately 1 a.m. Thursday morning, a St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-10 for traveling too close, and for improper display of a license plate.

Following inconsistencies regarding the driver’s travel plans, a K-9 was deployed and alerted on a law mower in the rear of the truck. Further search of the lawn mower netted a fast food bag inside of the grass catcher along with grass clippings.

Deputies found approximately 2.2 pounds of suspected cocaine wrapped in plastic inside the bag. John Maurice Mouton Jr., of Houston, was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine over 400 grams, plus the traffic violations that got him pulled over in the first place.

He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
