COA Mardi Gras Dance

The 29th annual St. Landry Council on Aging Mardi Gras dance was held Monday at the Northwest Community Center.

Seniors danced to the live entertainment of Guyland Leday, Family and Friends Zydeco Band.

Master of Ceremonies was Theme LeDee of St.Landry Sheriff Department.

There were judging of costumes, which included most traditional or original, prettiest costume, best dancing female and male and the crowning of the Mardi Gras King and Queen.

Judges included Chief Gary (Goose) Fontenot, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, Cheryl Long and Theresa Stelly, both of Central Louisiana Home Health.

Voted as Best Dancing Male was Frank Hatch of Rayville, Best Dancing Female went to Kathleen Cowling of Clinton, Miss., Prettiest Costume was awarded to Nettie Leger of Eunice, Most Original Costume went to Denna Horton of Trinidad, Texas.

Crowned Mardi Gras King and Queen were Clarence Matherne and JoEl Matherne of Raceland.

Refreshments and gumbo was served.
