The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office recovered cocaine and marijuana this week in two separate cases which resulted in the arrest of three residents of this parish.
Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives, received information in both cases which led to the recovery of the narcotics. On Wednesday morning, Dupre sent Detective Orvel Hale and Sgt. Travis Basco to investigate a residence on Regal Lane near Pine Prairie where he learned someone was allegedly growing marijuana.
Hale and Basco recovered three plants and booked Steven McCauley, 46, 1195 Regal Lane, Ville Platte, into the parish jail on cultivation of marijuana. Bond was set at $7,500.
In the second case, Dupre and Hale went to an area outside Mamou to investigate the alleged transportation of cocaine in that area. Once they arrive, they conducted a traffic stop with the assistance of Mamou Police Officer Lucas Lavergne. They located cocaine in the vehicle, which led to the arrest of Madison Rea Catoire, 21, 1431 LaHaye Road, Mamou. She was booked into the parish jail on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Information from the traffic stop led officers to a residence on Second Street in Mamou. After a search of the residence, they located marijuana, cocaine, a scale, various small bags used for packaging narcotics and packaged cocaine inside holes which were made in the walls of the residence. Dupre said a truck outside the residence was searched by Lavergne, who located hidden compartments with small vials of cocaine and straws, which are used to snort the narcotic. He commended Lavergne on a great job of locating these narcotics.
As a result of this search, Dupre said charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, distribution of cocaine and simple possession of marijuana were filed against Riley Richardson, 50, 805 Second St., Mamou. He was booked into the parish jail on a $25,000 bond.
