As part of his requirement of being chosen “Student of the Year,” Hoffpauir penned this short autobiography:

“Surprise!

“That is what I felt when I was chosen ‘Student of the Year’ at Lake Arthur Elementary School. Yet, I have always felt like a very lucky person.

“My name is Cole Ray Hoffpauir. I was born on April 27, 1998. My parents are Colette and Jered Hoffpauir. My mother is a teacher at Jennings High School, and my dad is a Directional Driller for Halliburton. He works in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. I feel very lucky to have my parents. They have always made me think that I could do anything.

“My family is very important to me. My Granna and my Nana both help me with my homework after school. They are a big help to me when I am having any problems. My Papa and I spend a lot of time together. He does the outdoor stuff with me. We go hunting and fishing together. He also races cars, and we go to the races together.

“My Papa told me when you work hard you get good things. I think he is right! My Nanny is always there to cheer me on in everything I do. I am involved in many sporting activities, and my family is always there to encourage me. My mom and my Nanny are usually cheering way too loud. But, I am always glad that they are there to watch me.

“This summer I was fortunate enough to travel overseas. My mom and I went to Dubai. It is in the United Arab Emirates. It was so much fun. I realized how different people are in the world. I think it is important to learn about different people and different places. I got to spend three weeks there with my cousins. They are adopted from China. They are really nice. We have a lot of things in common. I hope that I can travel to other countries with my career.

“My mom always tells me that getting good grades will help me get into a good college. I am lucky so far because getting good grades has come easy to me. It is important to me to keep making good grades. I would like to go to college at Louisiana State University. I know that I will have to keep up the good grades if I want to go to school there. I want to become a chemist. I really like my science and math classes. I like to figure things out. I know no matter what I do, my family will always be proud of me. I guess I am lucky that way!!!

I would like to thank all of my teachers who helped me to achieve success and who chose me as “Student of the Year” at Lake Arthur Elementary School. I would also like to thank my family for all of their help. They are very important to me, and I feel blessed and lucky to have them!!
