Collins and Bias recognized at Pre-Teen America program
CROWLEY - Jessica Collins, proud daughter of Donald and Shonnetta Green, and Jessie and Erica Collins and Treasure Bias, proud daughter of Stevey Bias and LaManda Griffin, both of Crowley, were selected as finalist in the Pre-Teen Louisiana Scholarship and Recognition Program which was held June 17-19, 2011 at the Hilton Hotel in Lafayette.
Pre-Teen Louisiana is a by-invitation only Scholarship and Recognition event involving young ladies 7 to 12 years of age based on their school academic records, awards and honors won and/or their participation in outside activities. Additionally, young ladies are invited who have been recognized publicly for their outstanding personal achievements, volunteer services, school involvement, leadership abilities or creative talents.
Jessica received the Judges award and “The Best Thank You Note” award which was written to her sponsors and her parents and touched the hearts of the judges.
Treasure was in the top twenty-four and she place third runner up in the junior division.
The girls had a very busy weekend. They had production rehearsals, general knowledegeability test, state finalists’ dinner, interviews, on-stage acknowledgement of accomplishments and the state finalists’ autography party. The pre-teen finals ended with a theme from the 1950s and the teens danced to various tunes.
The Pre-Teen America Program, founded in 1990, offers wholesome family activity and currently conducts state programs in many states. The national headquarters for the Pre-Teen America Scholarship and Recognition Program is located in Baton Rouge. Patricia Daniel is the founder and national director. The national charity affiliate of the Pre-Teen America Program is the Shriners Children’s Hospitals. The Pre-Teen America Program has donated more than $395,000 since 1990 to the Shriners Children Hospital, as well as to other previous national charity affiliates.
