Committee sends school policy recommendations to full board
The St. Landry School Board's Executive Committee accepted and forwarded to the full board Monday a Discipline Policy Review Committee's suggestions for policy in several areas.
Executive Committee members then endorsed and sent to the board a resolution by the parish's principals asking that they be allowed to run their schools as they see fit in the area of discipline policy offender.
The committee's report deals with school activity fees, dress code grooming, cell phones, graduation ceremonies and field trips, all areas that have been course of some discontent at one time or the other over recent months.
Committee members, who include Central Office staff, a board member, principals, counselors, teachrs, a representative from the Pupil Appraisal Center, parents and a bus driver, suggested punishment for violation of any of the issues involved be left to the individual principals.
Eunice Elementary Principal Irma Trosclair read a resolution adopted by the Parish Administrators Association which notes principals are the chief operation officer of their schools and requests they be allowed to adopt responses that are proper for each situtation, school to school.
Committee member Roger Young moved to accept the resoution and forward it to the board, which next meets on Nov. 6.
