Community Water Tower!

The Amite Community Center Water Tower is scheduled for complete demolition before the end of November. That one structure holds so much history and sentiment for Amite citizens.

Here is some history:

~ Town of Amite City purchased the lot that the water tower was constructed upon from Central Light & Power Co. Ltd. for $510 cash in May of 1922.

~ The water tower was built in 1922.

~ It was constructed by Pittsburgh & Des Moines Steel Works Company.

~ During World War II rumors state that the bell that hangs in front of the fire station was hung under the water tower to be rung as a warning in case there were air raids.
