Credit union proposes name change
In a letter to members, the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Credit Union is proposing a name change “to minimize confusion and attract many more customers,” according to Jeff Bouillion, board chairman.
The proposed change to People’s Credit Union of Rayne will be presented as an amendment to the articles of incorporation at the annual meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 in the St. Joseph Church Hall.
Bouillion reports the directors have debated changing the name for several months.
He says, “Since we are a state chartered credit union and are not church affiliated this has caused much confusion for new members who are questioning whether they must be a member of St. Joseph’s Church, or be of the Catholic faith to join our credit union.”
Bouillion continues, “The Board of Directors feels that since we are building a new home for our credit union, now is the time to change our name to incorporate and welcome more members into our family.”
