Crime Stoppers of Acadia seeks public’s help in arson case

RAYNE – Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish needs your help to solve a crime.

The Rayne Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance to solve an arson that damaged the gym at South Rayne Elementary.

On Aug. 14, around midnight, Rayne Police were notified of a fire in the rear of the gym. The fire was extinguished and an investigation was conducted. Detectives discovered that a suspect(s) vandalized a school bus, a classroom and the gym then set the gym on fire.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshall Office conducted an investigation and determined the fire was intentionally set and was arson.

This senseless crime delayed the first day of school and caused around $225,000 of damage from fire, smoke and water. The gym is currently being repaired and the students are unable to use it for the next few months.
