Crowley’s Daniels earns Grid Stars’ top billing
By Chris Quebedeaux
CROWLEY – Following a breakout passing performance in a blowout victory over Church Point two weeks ago, Crowley High quarterback D’Myrus Daniels was at it again last week in Westlake.
The junior signal caller threw for 136 yards and one touchdown while also leading the Gents rushing attack with 182 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries in a 34-28 District 4-AAA victory over the Rams.
That performance, which boosted the Gents to 7-1 overall and vaulted them into the Louisiana Class AAA Top 10 (No. 10) for the first time this season, was enough to earn Daniels the top billing in this week’s edition of Grid Stars. It is his second honor in as many weeks.
Daniels now has 647 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on 124 carries. He has also completed 59 of his 101 pass attempts for 989 yards and 11 additional touchdowns.
Also earning recognition this week are Notre Dame’s Stu Cook and Marshall Watson on offense and D.J. Welter and Hunter Stover on defense.
Cook and Watson combined for five of the Pios’ six touchdowns in a 42-0 victory over Abbeville. Cook logged nine carries for 38 yards and two touchdowns while also hauling in two passes for 28 yards and another score. Watson had nine carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
Welter led a defensive charge that limited Abbeville to just 105 total yards of offense. He racked up nine tackles while Stover had seven.
Church Point’s Von Duplechain and Joseph Carrier also made the list. Duplechain had 11 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns and Carrier had 18 totes for 68 yards and two scores in a 39-27 loss to Iowa.
