Crowley ceremony unites couple

First United Methodist Church in Crowley provided the perfect setting for a wedding ceremony held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, uniting Amber Alyse Duhon and Joshua Thomas Simon in holy matrimony. Reverend Jimmy Broussard officiated at the 3 p.m. double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Scott Duhon and Robin Kibodeaux, both of Crowley. Her grandparents are Myrtle Kidodeaux of Crowley, Wayne Kibodeaux of Egan, Bettie Duhon of Crowley and the late Julian Duhon. She is a 2008 graduate of Crowley High School, recently completed a CNA course at Louisiana Technical College, Acadian Campus, and has plans to continue her education towards a nursing degree.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Simon, and grandson of William and Betty Simon and the late Thomas and Jackie Ohlenforst, all of Roberts Cove. He is a 2007 graduate of Crowley High School and has completed basic training for the United States Airforce at Lockland Airforce Base in San Antonio while currently ranked as Airman First Class, F-15 crew chief.

Musical selections for the wedding ceremony were provided by vocalist Julie Lafosse and Rev. Jimmy Broussard on the organ.

Scripture readings were provided by Lacie Lemoine, friend of the bride.

Amber entered the church on the arm of her father, radiant in a split back, A-line gown of white satin featuring a beaded cuff and hemline. The ensemble was inset with a four foot chapel-length train. Completing the dress was an apple-red trim throughout. Her headpiece consisted of a fingertip-length, white single tiered veil accented with princess cut rhinestones.

In keeping with tradition, the bride placed a coin dated 1990, her birth date, in her shoe as something old; her complete attire as something new; pearl earrings from her mother as something borrowed; and something blue was a sapphire promise ring given to her by the groom in 2007.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was her friend, Jazalyn Nicole Aube. Bridesmaids were Jessica Ancelet, Amy Hanks and Kyla Leblanc, all friends of the bride.

Each bridal attendant wore a strapless, apple-red, floor-length dress while carrying a bouquet of deep red roses and white lilies.

Chosen as best man was Billie James Welch, friend of the groom, while groomsmen included Nicholas Simon, cousin of the groom; and Chris Meche and Dustin Hanks, friends of the groom.

Layla René Simon, sister of the groom, served as flower girl. Her escort was Alyxander Julian Duhon, who performed the duties of ring bearer.

Upon arrival, guests were ushered to their seats by Austin Duhon, brother of the bride; T.J. Ohlenforst and Tyler Ohlenforst, cousins of the groom.

On their children’s special day, the mother of the bride, Robin Kibodeaux, and the mother of the groom, the former Annette Ohlenforst, were presented with corsages of red roses and white lilies.

Immediately following the wedding the newlyweds were honored during a reception held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Crowley.

Among the refreshments was the bridal cake, a three-tiered butter cream confection with chocolate custard filling. Embellishing the cake was sugar-created fleur-de-lis emblems with a white pearl-drop border. Red roses placed between each tier finalized the look of the cake.

The groom was honored with a two-tiered chocolate delicacy fancying his favorite past time of poker.

Out-of-town guests attended from Lake Charles, Mandeville, Lafayette, Scott, Sulphur and Pensacola, Florida.

Following the wedding, the newlyweds will reside at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.

Prior to the wedding on Wednesday, February 25, a 7 p.m. rehearsal dinner was held at Fezzo’s in Crowley hosted by Craig Simon, stepfather of the bride. Guests were treated to a variety of entreé selections from the menu.
