Crowley Chamber to hold board elections

CROWLEY – The Crowley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to introduce the candidates for its Board of Directors. Five candidates have been nominated to fill three three-year terms, which will begin in July 2008. Those nominated include:

Bryan Francis, Francis Drilling Fluids

Bryan is the Fleet Manager and Cleaning Services Manager for Francis Drilling Fluids. FDF has been a member of the Chamber for over 15 years. Bryan has attended numerous Chamber events including Annual Banquet, Legislative Breakfast, Network @ Noon and Business After Hours. He is a graduate of the Leadership EXCEL program. In addition, FDF has been a long-time supporter of the Career Expo and other civic events including Crowley Summer Youth Camp. Bryan is a volunteer coach for the Crowley Recreation Department, a member of the Louisiana Technical College Advisory Board and volunteers for other civic and charitable groups. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from USL. He has also completed extensive management, safety and drilling fluids training. He is married to Alicia Dore Francis and they are parents of Bryan Jr., Blake, Ben and Anna Catherine.

Henry Helo, Carmichael’s Cashway Vital Care

Henry is employed as the Human Resource Director at Carmichael’s. They have been members of the Chamber for over two decades. They have been participated in and sponsored the Acadia Parish Health Fair in recent years. Henry has attended Chamber events including Network @ Noon and Business After Hours. He is a member of the Crowley Rotary Club and is currently serving on the Building and Planning Committee for First Baptist Church in Lafayette. Henry graduated from Notre Dame High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration. Henry is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the USA Triathlon Association. He is married to Summer Carmichael Helo.

Melinda Malmay, St. Martin Bank

Melinda is employed by St. Martin Bank where she is currently serving as Assistant Vice President. St. Martin Bank has been a Chamber member for two and half years and has hosted Chamber After Hours, participated in the Gumbo Cook Off and sponsored the Farmer Appreciation Dinner as well as the Annual Chamber Banquet. Melinda has served on the board for Christmas in April for two years, and she is a past member of the Crowley Business Professional Women’s Club. She is a current member of the Crowley Rotary Club. Melinda serves on the Board of Elders at the First Presbyterian Church in Crowley and has also served as the church Treasurer for the past fourteen years. She is a graduate of Crowley High School, LSUE and USL’s Paralegal School. She is married to William ‘Bill’ Malmay and has one daughter, Megan.

Pat Miers, Louisiana Technical College-Acadian Campus

Pat has been employed with the Louisiana Technical College for twenty-four years and is currently serving as Assistant Dean. LTC has been a Chamber member for three years and has been involved with the Network @ Noon Luncheons, Career Expo, Business After Hours, Farmers’ Appreciation Dinner, Legislative Breakfast and Annual Banquet. Pat is a graduate of the Leadership EXCEL program. She is actively involved in student life activities with the LTC, and she has served on the Acadia Parish Partner Committee and the Acadia Parish School’s Vocational Committee. She also has been involved with the Louisiana Association of Business Educators and served on the Executive Board as Vice President and President. Pat has also served on the Executive Council of the Louisiana Association for Career and Technical Education. She is a member of St. Michael’s Church Parish and is currently serving as a lector. Pat earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from USL and her Masters Degree from McNeese State University. She received her 30+ Certification from ULL. In 1995, Pat was awarded the Outstanding Instructor at the LTC regional level and in 2004 was awarded the Outstanding Student Services Staff Award. She has been married to John Miers for twenty-three years and they have three children, Michelle, Meagan and John-Patrick.

John Morgan, Louisiana Rice Mill

John is employed by Louisiana Rice Mill, LLC and is currently serving as Vice President. Since joining the Chamber in 2005, Louisiana Rice Mill has been a sponsor of the Annual Farmers Appreciation Dinner. They have also been a sponsor for the International Rice Festival, LSU Rice Field Day and other various activities among schools and the Crowley Recreation Department. Louisiana Rice Mill has also been a supporter of the Acadia Parish Jr. Livestock Show. John attended Notre Dame High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master of Business Administration from LSU. He was a CPA from 1995 through 2000. John is involved with the USA Rice Federation World Market Price Committee. He is married to Joan Broussard Morgan and they are the parents of Grace, Anna and Lily.

The Chamber is guided by those elected to serve on the Board of Directors. In addition to monthly meetings, Board members support Chamber programs and events throughout the year with their time, talent and resources. Returning Board members include Brent Benson, Allstate Insurance and Financial Services; Pat Bordes, Fezzo’s Seafood, Steakhouse & Oyster Bar; Romona Credeur, Iberia Bank; Bryant Gielen, Rice Palace; Scott Soileau, Dugas, Soileau & Breaux; and M’Elise Trahan, Individual Member. Ballots have been mailed to all Chamber Members whose 2007-08 dues are current and must be returned to the Chamber Office by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30th.
