Crowley crowns its new Miss Merry Christmas

CROWLEY – As the holiday season gets underway, a new Miss Merry Christmas was crowned Thursday night at the Rice Festival building in Crowley.

Pageant Chairman Cindy Haynes and Santa Clause, who once again made a special appearance, helped crown Gase Broussard as the 2010 Miss Merry Christmas.

Gase is the seven-year-old daughter of Mark and Diana Broussard and is a student at St. Michael School. Gase has blonde hair and blue eyes and enjoys art (drawing, painting and coloring), gymnastics and acting (dramatizing and pretending). She collects silly bands, Build-A-Bear, play dolls, Precious Moment Christmas ornaments and birthday figurines. Gase wants to be a gymnastics teacher when she grows up.

The 45th annual pageant was once again sponsored by the ETA Kappa Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. President of the sorority Heidi Stutes welcomed the crowd and introduced the evening’s master of ceremonies, Jimmy Broussard.

The pageant began with a farewell walk by the 2009 Miss Marry Christmas, Alison Anne Mire who also attends St. Michael. She is the daughter of Tricia and Tiger Mire.

Entertainment was provided by the Redemptorist Bell Choir and two performances by the Delores Nutt School of Dance Center.

The 22 contestants that entered the pageant were decreased throughout the night. First to the Top 10, then the Top 5 and finally until there was one standing, Gase.

Along with Miss Merry Christmas four runners-up were named. They were, fourth runner-up Maddison Frey from St. Francis Elementary; third runner-up Kiara Guidry from Iota Elementary; second runner-up Sophie Miller from Northside Christian School and first runner-up Taylor Perkins from North Crowley Elementary.

Rounding out the top 10 were Ya’Kerra Williams from Ross Elementary, Ava LeJeune from St. Michael, Diamond McMillan from Redemptorist, Ava Herandez from North Crowley Elementary and Olivia Vincent from South Crowley Elementary.

Lynne Broussard, member of the Beta Sigma Phi–ETA Kappa Chapter, closed the pageant.

The other 12 contestants were, Emma LaVergne from North Crowley Elementary, Aaliyah Meche from North Crowley Elementary, Caroline Baker from Redemptorist, Emma Hanks from St. Michael, Leah Guidry from North Crowley Elementary, Sara Boulet from St. Michael, Maydson Guidry from Redemptorist, Destiny Thompson from Northside Christian, Klya Abshire from St. Michael, Grace Vidrine from St. Michael, Jeanne Gardiner from St. Francis, Ella Knight from Northside Christian and Miya Fontenot from Iota Elementary.
