CROWLEY – The Crowley Fire Department responded to approximately thirty calls during Hurricane Gustav but were pleased to report that none of them were major.
“We had some problems with fuel cans and generators,” said Crowley Fire Chief Jody Viator. “It’s important for people to understand the proper way to use them. For example, there are people that tried to fill up their generators while they were still turned on. That is a big mistake as the fuel can hit the engines and ignite.”
Wednesday morning a tired group of firemen sat inside their station after having probably not slept much during the past few days.
“It’s always tough during these storms and the important thing to remember is to just use common sense and understand how their generators and other gas containing items,” he said.
