Crowley High class of 1974 holds 35th reunion
The Crowley High School Class of 1974 held its reunion at the Rice Festival Building in Crowley on December 19, 2009.
The reunion began with attending Church Services on Sunday, December 13, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Rev. Christopher J. Arvie, Pastor, delivered a soul reviving message while Rev. Sherard Joseph delivered the closing prayer. The service was inspiring and uplifting.
After services, plans were to dine at Rice Palace Restaurant for the evening. Class members serving on the committee were Donzetta Joseph, Martha Wilridge, Sheral Garrick, Connie Freeman, Linda Faye Eaglin, Wayne Wilridge and Cedric Williams.
On Friday, December 18 the CHS class of 1974 hosted a “pre-reunion” social at the LaQuinta Inn Banquet Room. Hospitality and good conversation were the highlights of the evening. Donnie Brackins went down memory lane by presenting pictures from the class of ‘74’s yearbook.
The event was attended by CHS class of 1974 alumni. The social allowed local and out of town alumni, in town for the event, to become reacquainted before the reunion. The uniting of classmates was memorable.
Those in attendance enjoyed gumbo and all the fixings prepared by classmate Cedric Williams. A special thanks goes out to hospitality greeters, Anthony and Geralyn Stevenson, for a job well done.
On Saturday, December 19, reunion night, a tribute was held in memory of deceased classmates. Pictures of the deceased classmates were arranged on a memorial table, those classmates are Kermit Williams, Floyd Bias, Billy Primeaux, Ray Martin, Richard Milson, Kenneth Joseph, Bobby Jackson and Veronica Sinclair.
The event featured Christmas decorations including Poinsettias with candles and a touch of silver and berries intermingled. A delicious meal was served throughout the evening including pork and beef jambalaya, green beans, green salad, dinner rolls and an array of beverages. The meal was prepared by Brenda Boutte.
Special guests was Bro. James Washington, Deacon at Morning Star Baptist Church; Kira Meaux, soloist; Ayesha Segura, dance performance; Classmate Wayne Wilridge, guest speaker; and Vernon “Step” Martin, musical entertainment.
Approximately 35 guests attended the reunion traveling from Hawaii, Tennessee, Texas, and various cities throughout Louisiana.
The class officers were Donzetta Joseph, president; Martha Wilridge, vice-president; Sheral Garrick, secretary; Connie Freeman, assistant secretary; Linda Faye Eaglin, treasurer; Sandra Phillip, chaplain; and Russell Corbins, sergeant-at-arms.
The class reunion theme was “Never would have made it and Never could have made it without you.” The class colors were black, white and silver. The class flower was the white carnation. The next reunion has been planned for 2014.
