Crowley Nationals cruise past Arnaudville in Bronco Section I opener

EUNICE – The Crowley Nationals opened the 2012 Bronco Section I Tournament in Eunice with a bang Friday evening when they racked up 15 hits en route to a 21-14 victory over the Arnaudville Astros in the opening game.

The two teams combined for slugged it out for just over three hours in a game that saw six different pitchers toe the rubber. In all, there were 25 hits, 24 walks and 11 errors committed on the night.

The Nationals looked as if they were going to run away with the game when they batted through the lineup and posted four runs in the opening frame.

However, Arnaudville fired right back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Crowley responded with two runs in the second inning and four in the third to take a commanding 10-2 advantage.

But just like before, Arnaudville had an answer. The Astros belted out four hits and plated six runs to cut the lead to 10-8.

Fortunately for the locals, that was as close as the Astros would get.

Crowley added five more runs in he fourth and two in the fifth to take a 17-11 lead and outscored the Astros 7-3 in the final two frames.

Crowley’s Luke Foreman picked up the victory on the mound after giving up seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and three walks in two innings of work.

Desmond Harmon gave up four runs on two hits and three walks in three innings and Cameron Ledet surrendered three runs on two hits and three walks in the final two frames.

Jake Guillot suffered the loss for the Astros after giving up 15 runs on nine hits and 10 walks in four innings.

Foreman also helped his own cause by going 4-for-6 at the plate and driving in four runs.

Steven Callahan followed Foreman with three hits and one RBI and Harmon had two hits, both triples, and drove in three runs. Leadoff man Christian Stafford also had two hits.

Gavin Corzine and Ledet each singled and drove in a run. J.T. Kirsch and Logan Aguillard each had a double. Anders Fontenot rounded out the offense with one RBI.

Quincy Brown paced Arnaudville with two hits, including a bases loaded triple in the third inning. He finished the game with four RBI.

Briggs Wimberly had two hits and two RBI in the loss while Kade Taylor singled twice. Adam Wiltz, Connor Bertrand, Gabriel Sanders and Guillot each had one hit on the day.
