Crowley outlasts Notre Dame
CROWLEY – In a rare Saturday afternoon prep basketball contest, the Crowley Gents withstood a late run by Notre Dame to hold on for a 64-53 non-district victory over the visiting Pioneers.
The game was a late addition for both teams due to West St. Mary cancelling its scheduled Friday contest against the Gents.
Crowley improved to 11-6 with the victory. Notre Dame fell to 3-12.
The Gents jumped out to an 11-2 advantage in the opening minutes before Notre Dame stormed back to cut the lead to 22-11 behind nine points from Morgan Allen.
Crowley’s Jerrell Andrus took over in the second quarter, scoring seven of his 15 points in the frame to lead the Gents on a 17-5 run.
Leading 39-16 after the break, the Gents went cold from the floor, scoring just four points in the third quarter. Notre Dame’s Kane and Taylor Thibodeaux combined for eight points in the frame to help the Pios slice the lead to 43-28.
The Gents’ reserves hit the court in the final frame and were outscored 25-20.
Kane Thibodeaux scored 12 points in the final eight minutes and led the Pios with 18 points. Allen finished with 17 points and Taylor Thibodeaux had nine.
Stu Cook contributed four points in the loss while Drew Trahan pitched in three points and Will Faulk scored two.
Damon Malbrough scored eight of Crowley’s 20 points in the final frame to finish with 10 points. Michael Harmon and Therion Beverly each scored seven points in the victory while Donovan Montgomery had six.
Also contributing in the victory were Kaleb Cormier and Donavon Morris with five points each; Tuskani Figaro with four points; Diquan Bennett and Dylan Montgomery with two points.
