Crowley rallies past Church Point
LEROY – The Crowley Gents rounded out the North Vermilion Tournament Sunday with a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Church Point in the third-place game at Patriot Field.
The Gents (10-6) rallied to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning and then plated the game-winning run in the sixth when Chad Hoffpauir singled to center to drive in Taylor Doughty.
With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the third inning, Church Point loaded the bases and looked to have Crowley in trouble with no outs. However, the Gents were able to get out of the inning unscathed.
The Bears (3-11) loaded the bases again in the fourth and pushed across two runs to take a 5-4 advantage heading into the final inning due to the time limit.
Brian Broussard led off the frame with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, Donavon Morris hit a slow chopper to second base and beat out the throw, allowing Broussard to score the tying run.
Jake Trahan was credited with the victory after relieving Hoffpauir in the fourth inning. He surrendered one run on three hits and two walks while striking out one in three innings. Hoffpauir gave up four runs (all unearned) on three hits.
Logan Marks was tagged with the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings.
T.J. Lyons pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on six hits.
Hoffpauir led the Gents’ 10-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Brian Broussard followed with two doubles while Morris, Justin Desselle and Tyler Dupuis each had one hit and one RBI. Trahan and Doughty each had one hit and Brody Deshotel and Corde McCall each had one RBI.
Church Point’s Brock Alleman, Chance Roy, Brett Thibodeaux, Nick Kidder and Brock Latiolas each had one hit and one RBI. Nick Hebert rounded out the Bears’ offense with one hit.
Crowley will be in action again this evening when they open district play at home against Eunice at 6 o’clock.
