Crowley tops Northside Christian; Notre Dame falls to Parkview
CROWLEY – The Crowley Gents shrugged off a sluggish start Saturday and scored seven runs over the final four innings to surge past Northside Christian, 8-3, in a non-district contest at Miller Stadium.
With the victory, the Gents improved to 11-12 on the season. Northside fell to 8-7.
Northside hurler Josh Wheeler held the Gents to just one run on one hit while striking out five in the first three innings.
Crowley finally got to Wheeler in the fourth frame and tagged him for four runs on four hits, including RBI singles from Kaleb Cormier and Mickey Morgan.
The Gent added a pair of runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh.
Northside plated two runs in the seventh, but reliever Bradly Ancelet recorded a strikeout to end the rally and the game.
Brody Deshotel logged the victory on the mound after giving up one run on six hits and two walks. He struck out five in six innings.
Ancelet worked the final frame, giving up two runs on two hits and one walk.
Northside was led by Joseph Trahan with two hits, including an RBI triple. Nick Zaunbrecher also had two hits, including a double and an RBI while Wheeler had two singles. Jon-Riley Mouton and Christian Morgan each had a single.
Doughty paced Crowley with two hits, including a triple, while Morgan and Cormier each had one hit and one RBI. Mackay Mouton, Steven Bertrand and Bradley Ancelet each had one hit and Deshotel drove in a run.
Parkview 13, Notre Dame 2
BATON ROUGE – Notre Dame jumped out to an early 2-0 lead,but the Pios were unable to hold off Class 3A’s No. 2-ranked Parkview in a non-district contest that was halted in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
The Pios took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run double by Dillion Gilbert.
Parkview answered with one run in the fourth before exploding for 12 more in the fifth.
Gilbert, Connor Goss, Hogan Guidry and Matt Venable each had one hit for the Pios.
Notre Dame returns to action this evening when they play host to Westlake at 6 o’clock.
