Crowley upends Church Point

CHURCH POINT – The Crowley Gents broke loose for 14 hits, five of them for extra bases, and picked up a much needed 8-3 victory over Church Point in a District 4-AAA road contest Wednesday afternoon.

The Gents improved to 12-8 overall and evened their league record at 2-2 with the victory. Church Point fell to 5-12 and 2-2.

Jake Trahan earned the victory, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks. He struck out 10 in 5 1/3 innings.

Tanner Carreon suffered the loss, giving up eight runs on 11 hits and one walk in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine.

Dupuis led the Gents with three hits while Trahan, Donavon Morris, Brody Deshotel and Taylor Bertrand each had two.

Carreon, Nick Hebert and Brody Latiolas each had one hit for the Bears.

Church Point took a 1-0 led in the first inning courtesy of a bases loaded walk to Nick Kidder that plated Brett Thibodeaux, who reached base on a two-out error.

Crowley responded with a run of its own in the top of the second inning. Dupuis led off the frame with a single and later crossed the plate on a single to right field by Bertrand.

The Gents broke the game open in the fourth inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Dupuis and Deshotel both singled to start the frame before Dupuis scored on a wild pitch. Then with two outs, Morris singled to center field and the ball got past the outfielder, rolling all the way to the wall.

Deshotel and Morris both scored on the error before Trahan capped the scoring with a solo home run to right field.

Church Point cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits, a walk and one Crowley error.

The Gents put the game out of reach in the seventh by scoring five runs on five straight two-out hits.

Justin Desselle got things going with a double. He later scored on a double by Brian Broussard. Dupuis then doubled to drive in Broussard before scoring himself on a single by Bertrand.
