D’Albor introduced as new Jennings chief

During a Friday press conference it was announced that Todd D’Albor, a former member of the St. Martinville Police Department, will serve as the interim police chief for the Jennings Police Department. He will replace Police Chief Johnny Lassiter who has taken a voluntary demotion. Lassiter is expected to return to his previous position as a lieutenant with the Jennings Police Department on Monday.

Lassiter’s move came as no surprise. During his tenure, he and his department battled a major crime wave in the city. The crime wave prompted local and state authorities to enlist the assistance of state police to patrol the city after repeated phone calls from Jennings residents.

Over a two-week period in December, police investigated three shootings and one stabbing. Last February, a man was shot and killed while driving his car on West Street and a 14-year-old remains on life support after being shot in the head. The beginning of March saw a robber get away with cash from the Jeff Davis Bank.
