D.A. to decide on shooting case
DA Mike Harson is expected to make a decision on whether officers were justified in the shooting of
-year-old Anthony Campbell. Campbell was left in critical condition after sustaining a gun shot to the head on February 10.
Authorities arrived at Campbell’s home in Rayne, located at West C Street and Malvern Avenue, to execute a search warrant. This is when Campbell attempted to elude officers. According to authorities, he was shot after he struck an unnamed deputy of the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office with his SUV.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Deputies and Rayne Police officers were present at the time of the shooting. It is still unclear who fired the shot that actually wounded Campbell.
There were no weapons found in the SUV, however, investigators did find a large sum of money. An unspecified amount of substances believed to be narcotics were also located within the vehicle.
Louisiana State Police finalized the investigation, as it does in office involved shootings, and released it to District Attorney’s Office in early June.
DA Mike Harson noted that there was a delay because the bullet remains lodged in Campbell’s skull.
