Dallas John Melancon
Catahoula – A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mr. Dallas John Melancon, age 78, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church. Fr. Donald Pelous was the celebrant. Interment followed in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
A native of Butte LaRose and resident of Catahoula, Mr. Melancon passed away peacefully at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, with his family at his side.
Mr. Melancon was retired from BP Amoco as a propane salesman. After his retirement, he turned to his passions; fishing, visiting with his family and friends, and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Ole’ Pop”. His love for his family was great and he always left them with this message, “I love you, be careful of the road, be good and feed his babies.”
During his life, Mr. Melancon served his community for many years as Commissioner of Elections, served on the Board of District 4 Water District, Council member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, and a member of Farm Bureau, RFD.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 55 years, Louella M. Melancon of Catahoula; his children, Roland and Loraine Melancon of St. Martinville, Raymond and Melanie Melancon, Inez Francois, Louise and Dale Prados, and Ricky and Karen Melancon all of Catahoula; grandchildren, Joshua Melancon and companion Melanie, Nicholas Francois and wife Calie and their children, Reese and Sawyer Grace, Lacy Savoy and husband Lane, and their children Gavin and Maddox, Ryan Melancon and companion Heather Russo, Megan Irving and husband Tance, and their son Asher, Genee Prados and companion Thomas Williams and their children, Amelie Prados and Elise Williams, Clair Melancon, Naomi Melancon, Blair Prados, Trent Prados, Hailey Pommier (his adopted granddaughter); brothers and sisters, Elaine M. Hebert of Lafayette, Milton and Lilly Melancon and Mildred M. Simoneaux, all of Catahoula and Leed Melancon of Parks; and his adoptive sisters, Sister Ameline Theriot and Annie Theriot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Amelie Wiltz Melancon; brother, Stafford Melancon; daughter-in-law, Phyllis L. Melancon; son-in-law, John Ronald Francois; and nephew, Chris Melancon.
Pallbearers were Joshua Melancon, Nicholas Francois, Ryan Melancon, Tance Irving, Trent Prados and Michael Melancon.
Honorary pallbearers were Roland Melancon, Raymond Melancon, Ricky Melancon, Dale Prados, Leed Melancon, Milton Melancon, Lane Savoy, Gavin and Maddox Savoy, Asher Irving, Ronald Melancon, Dr. Carl Ditch and Thomas Williams.
