Daugherty is new CEO at VPMC

The Board of Trustees at Ville Platte Medical Center (VPMC) is pleased to announce R. Alan Daugherty has assumed the position of chief executive officer for the hospital, effective February 2.

“We are excited that Alan has agreed to join us,” said Thomas Fontenot, MD, chairman of the board for VPMC. “He appears to be a hard worker and has already rolled up his sleeves and gotten to work. His previous experiences will be of great benefit here.”

Daugherty, 51, has a proven record in building teams, fostering strong physician relations, and creating ties to the communities in which he serves. Most recently he was president/chief executive officer of Monroe Surgical Hospital in Monroe, where he served since its inception in 2001 until its sale in 2008. Prior to that from 1995-2001, he served as CFO, COO and CEO for River Regional Health System in Vicksburg, MS, a two-hospital system with 450 beds, nine physician clinics and a home health agency. While there, he oversaw the design and building of a $120 million replacement for Parkview Hospital. He began his healthcare career in 1982 with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) serving as a Chief Financial Officer for three HCA hospitals with bed sizes ranging from 120-341.

“Alan comes to us with the experience that will lead the hospital forward,” said Michael Clark, president of the American Division for LifePoint Hospitals Inc., of which VPMC is a part. “He has exceptional skills that will be recognized and appreciated by the physicians, employees, and volunteers as well as the greater community. He has a very high commitment to quality, is community-minded, and has a track record of working well with physicians and employees.”

Daugherty joined LifePoint Hospitals Inc. this past fall in an interim capacity as CFO for Doctor’s Hospital-Opelousas.

He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, and is in the process of completing his MBA/MHA. He has served as resident professional at the University of LA-Monroe Graduate School of Business.

“I look forward to working with the physicians, hospital staff and members of the community throughout the Ville Platte region,” Daugherty said. “VPMC is an outstanding resource that has the potential to become the leader in healthcare excellence in this region. There’s a great infrastructure in place here already with the physical plant being in superb shape. We have all the potential in the world to outshine any health care facility.”

Daugherty and his wife, Tanya, who is a registered nurse, are in the process of relocating to the Ville Platte area. They have three grown sons, Seth, Spencer and Austin. He enjoys horses, hunting and golf.
